Preparing For Your Engagement Session

Check list:

  1. Schedule your hair and makeup appointments (this is the perfect time to do your bridal trials with HMUA)
  2. Choose outfits (be you, pick something that you’re comfortable in) I always suggest something casual and something more formal, but also keep in mind the location and how colors and patterns may clash. you can even text me some photos and I’ll give you some input! 🙂
  3. Schedule your nail appointment (we will be getting close up shots of your beautiful ring)
  4. Clean your ring (if necessary)
  5. Pick a post-session date night spot (your hair and makeup will be done so why not make it a date night)

What to bring:

  • Flats to switch in to between photo spots
  • An additional outfit (casual + formal)
  • Your lip gloss/lip sticks for touch ups
  • A light jacket to cover up if it will be cold

Things to consider:

  • Lighting (reference photos)
    • My editing is True to Life which means I do not manipulate colors or atmosphere. Your photos will be a reflection of how the day was.
    • Contrary to what many people believe (outside of the photography world), overcast days are the best because the clouds act as a natural reflector for even light.
    • Sessions are scheduled right before sunset, so that we can play with the sunlight and also get epic sunset photos (usually works best at the beach or open fields)
  • Men and Women Clothing Tips
    • Neutral colors will look best! Bright pink or purples will not look as good in certain environments so keep this in mind.
    • Most San Diego locations have green backdrops so think about this when choosing your outfit.
  • Getting Dirty
    • Many popular locations in San Diego are hiking trails..there is dirt and rocky terrain so if you decide to wear white or any light colors it is a possibility it may get dirty
      • I will do my best to make sure your clothes stay as clean as possible, but keep this in mind.
  • Protected Habitat
    • Close to sunset the animals will start to make their appearance
      • coyotes , deer, bunnies etc at certain locations
    • I have seen snakes, so I make sure to not have clients stepping into tall grass during warmer seasons.
  • Crowds
    • Locations like Downtown Gaslamp, the beach and Balboa Park can be crowded, especially on the weekends – people will stare and tell you congratulations..just smile and say thank you lol It will be awkward at times!
    • Its important to come early so you can get a good parking space at these popular locations

Ladies, Prep your man for the session! Most men are not excited for a 45minute – 1hour session of taking photos. Usually they are unsure what to expect and wonder why it’s so important to get them done. Take a moment and let them know why it’s important for the both of you and show him the photography style that I offer.

Also, to calm nerves, take a shot right before your session 😉 lol
